"near series : otherness" is the second of three volumes of the "near series." the very core of the “near series,” is essentially improvisational in nature, with major elements being recorded for, and during, live performances in 2015 and 2016. improvisational moments were captured and then subsequently woven together in a more deliberate and compositional manner. as the title indicates, the emphasis here is on otherness, in this case, the quality of an experience, perception or place seeming out-of-the-ordinary, heightened, unusual, alien or altered. I have experienced this feeling many times in my life, and while it can be momentarily disconcerting, it has also become a very familiar feeling and one that can serve as a signal to pay more attention to what is happening in that moment.
