Berkdrums Again Steve Brand shows us why he belongs among the top-ambient-sound-sculptors... the albums are of a constant superhigh quality, and this one is no exception. The soundpads intertwined with fieldrecordings that are on a constant loop, they just give me this deep nostalgic feeling, like I've been here before, and I definitely don't want to leave... the combination with the wind-instruments (different flute-sounds), that play these lovely patterns that also hit you straight in the heart and soul, makes for an absolute masterpiece in Steve's ouvre. Buy it, put it on, on repeat, close your eyes and feel the heat of the sun, smell the summer scents of the forest, watch the clouds passing by...what a feeling, whát an album!

Richard Gürtler Kudos to Steve Brand for dusting off these wonderfully evocative memories!!! I can imagine how inspirational and challenging must be this, one of a kind experience, when visiting this breathtaking environment. Personally, I have never been to Apache Spring Ranch in Sonoita, but with "Into The Current" I was able to journey through this life-enhancing experience of Steve Brand and his SoundCurrent spirits. I must write this encounter constantly nourishes my body and mind!!!

Brian Bourassa Take a mysterious and calm journey into a somewhat desolate, yet peaceful landscape of the personal, inner world of Steve Brand.

Steve's work continues to ripen with each new release, and this one is proof-in-the-hearing.

...I think Mr. Mattson said it best!

Roy Mattson Great new album by Steve Brand…this one is going to be getting a lot of playback by me. A perfect atmosphere with interwoven synth beds, natural sounds, and touches of ecstatic wooden flute. It exudes and oozes from the speakers, gently permeates into your surrounding environment, and just kind of hangs in the air like a memory, or the scent of pollen on a dewey night. Beautiful work.

about

Tracks:
Into The Current | 60:00

“Into The Current” is a 60 minute composition that stands as a document of, and tribute to, my experience at Steve Roach's “SoundCurrent Master's Class” in late September of 2007 at his then home and studio in Sonoita, Arizona. Myself and three other artists, Ben Garvie, Chad Kettering and Roy Mattson, spent a life-changing week immersed in the supportive and stimulating environment of Epona Equestrian Center and Roach's Timeroom. During those few days, we ate great food, talked much, listened deeply, shared widely and slept a little. My sincere gratitude goes out to these four men for the experience they gave me—it was an utter privilege to share that depth of time, spirit and music with them all.

Field recordings, overtone flute, bass flute and keyboard textures are interwoven to create this serene and multilayered journey into soul and memories of warm desert breezes, shaded canyons, crisp mountain streams, cool nights and deeply rooted memories.

Thanks also to Peter James for his mastering magic.
